honey bee sire

Definition

A honey bee sire is a breeder queen, commonly abbreviated to 4a, which in honey bee breeding programs refers to the queen from which the drones descend directly or through its daughters (referred to as drone producing queens) that mate with an unmated queen descending from a honey bee dam.
